The marigold flower, known as the “flower of the dead” in Mexico, was cultivated by ancient Aztecs and modern Mexicans to be used in the annual Day of the Dead ceremony. The flowers are medicinal and used to support healthy digestion and immunity. The flowers are also used as a natural plant dye, producing a yellow and orange dye.

- Dried marigold flowers
- Cellulose (ex: cotton) or protein (ex: silk) fabric
- Mordant
- Pot for dye or steam bath
- Tongs
